Denmark June 2024: Tesla Model Y and Model 3 far above the rest

Tesla Model 3 sales are up 157.5% year-on-year in June.

Danish May new car sales edge up 4% year-on-year to 14,572 and 1.2% year-to-date to 66,816. Volkswagen (+32%) takes the lead above Audi (+2.3%) and Toyota (+11%) with Mercedes (+42.7%) and Tesla (-25.5%) rounding out the Top 5. The VW ID.4 (+198.7%) is the best-seller ahead of the Tesla Model Y (-50.5%) and the new Volvo EX30. The Audi Q4 e-Tron (+133.6%) and Tesla Model 3 (+93.3%) follow.

In June, the market is up 6.7% to 19,531 sales, leading to a H1 2024 result up 2.4% to 86,336. Tesla (+17.9%) shoots up to 17.1% share, its best since last December (21.2%). Volkswagen (-0.4%) and Audi (-12.7%) disappoint but Toyota (+19.6%), Mercedes (+55.1%), BMW (+58%) and Peugeot (+10.2%) all beat the market below. Renault (+63.2%) also impresses at #9 while Cupra (+2.8%) is back inside the Top 10 for the first time since last July at #10.

Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y (-22.4%) and Model 3 (+157.5%) are ultra dominant with 8.6% and 8.5% share respectively, also now ranking #1 and #2 over H1. As a reminder the Model 3 was #4 over the Full Year 2023. The VW ID.4 (+130.5%) is down two spots on last month to #3, distancing the Audi Q4 e-Tron (+148.8%) and the VW T-Roc (+9.7%). The Peugeot 2008 (+761.1%) surges ahead to #6 with the Polestar 2 (+137.9%), Renault Austral (+475%) and Citroen C3 (+83.4%) also impressive in the remainder of the Top 10. The Cupra Formentor (-23%) falls year-on-year but still ranks at a respectable 9th place.
