India April 2024: Tata Punch repeats at #1 in record market

The Tata Punch breaks its volume record in April.

New car wholesales in India edge up 1.7% year-on-year in April to 337,070 units which is another all-time high volume for the month. The year-to-date tally is up 9.3% to a record 1,472,100 sales. The Top 3 manufacturers all roughly match the market with shy gains: Maruti Suzuki is up 0.5%, Hyundai up 1% and Tata up 1.9%. Mahindra for its part shoots up 18.2% to 12.2% share in 4th place while Toyota does even better at +32% in 6th position. Volkswagen (+0.6%) is the only additional brand in positive as Citroen (-59.7%), Skoda (-35.7%), Jeep (-32.4%), Honda (-18.1%) and Renault (-14.2%) all freefall.

Model-wise, the Tata Punch (+75.2%) lodges another magnificent result and repeats at the top spot, breaking its monthly volume record in the process, with the EV variant potential helping volumes up. As a reminder it also ranks #1 year-to-date whereas its was only #8 over the Full Year 2023. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (-14.5%) is kept at #2 while the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (+44.6%) manages an all-time high volume at over 17,000 units. The rest of the Top 7 all outpace the market with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (+62.6%) the most dynamic above the Maruti Suzuki DZire (+56.2%), Mahindra Scorpio (+54%) up to record 6th place and Hyundai Creta (+8.9%).
