The Portuguese new car market drops 3.5% year-on-year in January to 14.505 registrations, a rare occurrence due to an issue with the registration process that had some cars purchased in January see their registration delayed until February. Brand-wise, Peugeot (+6%) takes the lead at 10.8% share ahead of 2017’s leader Renault up just one unit year-on-year at 10.2% of the market. Mercedes is down 2% on January 2017 but soars to an outstanding third place overall with 9.8% share, distancing Opel (+2%) while BMW tumbles down 30% to #5. Fiat (+13%) also impresses inside the Top 10 whereas Volkswagen implodes down 45% to #9 and 4.6% vs. #3 and 7.4% over the FY2017.
