Vietnam October 2017: Mazda CX-5 soars to #3, market down 22.7%

The Vietnamese new car market is down a harsh 22.7% year-on-year in October to just 21.868 registrations, bringing the year-to-date tally down 9.1% to 220.121 units. Thaco-Kia retains the manufacturers lead but drops a heavy 35% to 20.8% share, a mere 157 sales above Toyota down 21% to 20.1%. Mazda drops just 7% to a very strong 11.89% share vs. 9.4% year-to-date, Ford is down 6% to 10.4% and Honda down 19% to 4.6% Hyundai gains 61%, Mercedes is up 48% and Mitsubishi up 28%. Model-wise, the Toyota Vios remains in the lead in spite of a 13% drop, but its immediate followers both post great performances: the Ford Ranger is up 25% to #2 and the Mazda CX-5 up 35% to #3 thanks to the new generation. Below, the Toyota Fortuner (-16%), Mazda3 (-17%) and Kia Morning (-54%) all tumble down whereas the Honda City (+12%), Chevrolet Colorado (+307%), Mitsubishi Triton (+47%) and Outlander (+176%) all post robust gains.
