No sign of improvement for new car sales in Colombia, down another 9.7% year-on-year in September to 19.320 registrations which brings the year-to-date tally down 3.7% to 171.971 units. Chevrolet is the best-selling brand in the country but falls twice as fast as the market at -21% to 20.7% share, teased by Renault down just 7% to 19.5%. Nissan goes completely against the grain and gains 21% to reach a round 10% share vs. 8.9% so far in 2017. Ford (+14%) and most strikingly Hyundai (+253%) are the only two other carmakers registering a sales gain in the Top 10. In contrast, Toyota (-13%), Volkswagen (-19%) and Kia (-34%) all post double-digit declines. Further down, Subaru (+39%) is the only brand in positive in the remainder of the Top 20 while Peugeot (+250%) and Citroen (+670%) catch up for lost time below. There are six Chinese manufacturers in the Colombian Top 30 this month, led by JAC (-18%), Foton (-15%) and Dongfeng (-7%).
The Renault Sandero keeps its stranglehold on the Colombian models ranking just under 9% share, distancing the Chevrolet Spark, Sail, Renault Logan, Kia Picanto and Renault Duster/Oroch in the same order as the YTD charts. The Mazda CX-5 shoots up five spots on August to land in 7th place, becoming the best-selling SUV in the country above the Chevrolet Tracker (#12). The Chevrolet Onix is boosted by the arrival of its “crossover” variant Onix Activ up to #14, the Nissan Kicks remains at #16, the Suzuki Vitara is up to #23, the Toyota SW4 Fortuner up to #33 and the Hyundai Creta up to #41.
