After climbing 13% in May, the Malaysian new vehicle market is back down a harsh 12% in June to 50.275 registrations, yet the year-to-date tally is still in positive territory halfway through 2017 at +3.3% to 284.461 units. Market leader Perodua surfs just above the overall decline at -11% resulting in a strong 35.4% share vs. 35% so far in 2017. Honda drops 5% to 17.5% while Proton is up 4% to 14.4%, a notch above its 13.8% YTD share. In contrast Toyota (-22%), Nissan (-36%), Isuzu (-31%) and Mazda (-38%) freefall inside the Top 10 but Mercedes (+1%), BMW (+22%) and most impressively Volkswagen (+42%) post year-on-year gains. Further down the ranking, Audi (+84%), Volvo (+179%), Mini (+17%) and Porsche (+278%) are among the rare gainers.
