New car sales in New Caledonia, a French overseas archipelago located north-east of Australia, drastically slow down their growth in April at +0.9% to 587 registrations. This is to be compared with a 59% surge in January, +15% in February and +21% in March and leads to a robust 23% year-to-date gain to 2.841 registrations. Ford remains by far the most popular manufacturer at 15.7% share, placing the Fiesta(+90%) and Ranger (+15%) atop the models ranking this month. Dacia and Toyota come equal 2nd with 50 sales each, distancing Renault, Citroen and Peugeot. New Caledonian light vehicle buyers aren’t loyal to French marques indeed. Leader year-to-date, the Dacia Duster is up just 3% year-on-year and knocked down to third place ahead of the Toyota Hilux (+56%), Peugeot 208 (+11%), Isuzu D-Max (+64%) and Mazda BT-50 (+150%). The Hyundai Creta is down four spots to #9.
