Oman Full Year 2016: Hilux overtakes Land Cruiser Pickup to #1

New car sales in Oman are down a harsh 20% year-on-year in 2016 to 157.069 units. Toyota remains the uncontested leader here even though it sees its market share thaw from 54.2% a year ago to 49.4% now due to deliveries down 27% to 77.560. Far, far below and like in 2015 we find Nissan up 5% to gain almost four percentage points of market share, shooting up from 9.4% to 12.3%. Similarly, Hyundai remains in third place but improves its share from 9% to 10.2% thanks to sales down just 9%. Luxury brand Lexus (-13%) manages to climb up to a stunning 4th position, overtaking Kia (-33%), with Isuzu (-4%), Mitsubishi (-37%) and Mazda (-19%) in tow and holding onto the 2015 ranking. Jeep more than doubles its sales year-on-year at +104%, surging from #17 to #9, with Honda (+4%), Ram (+7%), Volvo (+252%), SAIC (+292%) and Alfa Romeo (+1767%) the only other carmakers posting gains. Notice also Geely, the best-selling Chinese brand in Oman, ranking at #15 vs. #11 in 2015.
The Hyundai Creta is the most popular all-new nameplate in Oman in 2016.
In the models ranking, despite sales down 27% on 2015 the Toyota Hilux manages to snap the pole position off the Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup (-40%), leader in 2015 but down to #3 this year. The Toyota Prado (-16%) is up two spots to #2, while the Land Cruiser (-43%) makes the Top 4 best-sellers 100% Toyota. The Nissan Patrol goes agains the grain and gains 17% to climb up two ranks to #5, followed by the Toyota Corolla (-21%), Hyundai Elantra (-1%) and Toyota Hiace (-33%). The Lexus LX is down 23% but remains among Oman’s 10 best-sellers at #10. The Toyota Fortuner surges 75% and 13 spots to #13, the Hyundai Sonata is up 43% to #15, the Nissan Juke up a gigantic 242% to #16 and the Nissan X-Trail up 267% to #21. The Hyundai Creta is the best-selling newcomer at #26, followed by the Toyota Prius (#42) and Geely KC (#72).
