New car sales in Slovenia are up 7% year-on-year in 2016 to 63.673 units, with the Top 4 best-selling carmakers unchanged on 2015: Volkswagen continues to lead the way with 15.3% share (+6%) ahead of Renault (-1%), Skoda (+10%) and Opel (+6%). Hyundai surges 43% and five spots on last year to land at #5, distancing Ford (-9%), Peugeot (-1%) and Dacia (+9%). Kia (+14%), Audi (+16%), Mercedes (+16%), Seat (+17%), Mazda (+18%), Fiat (+22%), BMW (+32%) and Suzuki (+61%) all post double-digit gains within the Top 20. Among smaller-volume brands, Lexus (+41%), Jaguar (+44%), Land Rover (+54%), Porsche (+55%), Volvo (+64%) and Mini (+68%) stand out.
The Renault Captur was #1 in August.
In the models ranking, the Renault Clio holds the top spot for an astounding 19th consecutive year despite sales down 12% to 3.854 and 6.1% share. If the Clio still maintains a comfortable advantage over the #2, the VW Golf at 4.1% (-7%), its domination was clearly eroded this year: it only ranked 1st for seven months and even fell to #12 in August when the Renault Captur took the lead for the first time. The VW Golf topped the monthly sales charts in March and September, the Skoda Octavia (up 18% to #3 in 2016) was #1 in February while the VW Polo (#4 annually) was tops in July and October. The Captur surges 48% to rank 5th overall this year, followed closely by the Opel Astra (+47%) while the Hyundai Tucson (+199%) stops just short of posting a Top 10 finish and the VW Touran is boosted up 231% by the new generation to #14. The Renault Talisman is the only all-new nameplate in the Top 100 (#88).
