It has become a bit of a routine over the past two years: November breaks another record for the month at 23.161 registrations, up 13% year-on-year and the 10th time out of 11 the monthly record is beaten this year – only July fell short. This is the third highest monthly result in the history of automobile in the Czech Republic below May this year (24.335) and June (25.714). The year-to-date tally, up 13% on 2015 to 237.780, is already a new all-time high even if by some weird magic absolutely no cars were sold in December. Last year’s all-time record was 230.857. Skoda easily dominates its home market once again, even outpacing the average growth rate at +17% to 7.468 sales and 32.2%. Volkswagen surges 36% to 2nd place and 11% but retreats below Hyundai when only “real” sales (aka minus re-exports) are taken into account with just 1.636 sales vs. 1.792 for the Korean company.
Renault (+30%) and Opel (+35%) shine but once again the title of most improved in the Top 10 goes to Mercedes, up 64% to 7th place overall. A similar performance in December could see the luxury brand break into the annual Top 10 for the first time. Year-to-date, Lexus (59%), Alfa Romeo (51%), Honda (32%) and Audi (27%) also post spectacular gains. Model-wise, Skoda places the Octavia (11.9%) share), Fabia (8.3%), Superb (4.1%) and Rapid (3.9%) in the Top four spots, followed by the VW Golf and Hyundai i30. The Renault Clio is up to #15 vs. #22 year-to-date, the Captur is up to #18 vs. #27 and the all-new Skoda Kodiaq gains 54 spots on its inaugural month in October to land at #24 with 1% market share.
