Indian new car wholesale deliveries are up 6% year-on-year in October to 279.974 units, according to BSCB the biggest ever month for car sales in India. This lifts the year-to-date tally up 10% to 2.487.967 deliveries. Market leader Maruti-Suzuki improves slower than the market at +2%, resulting in a slightly reduced – but still mammoth – 44.2% market share vs. 46.7% year-to-date. Hyundai is up 6% on its previous all-time monthly volume record established in October 2015 (47.015), lifting it to a new highest ever 49.816 – the Korean brand even broke the 50.000 unit-mark for the first time when including commercial vehicles (50.016). Below Mahindra up 5% to 8.3% share, Tata surges 28% thanks to the Tiago breaking the 6.000 monthly sales barrier for the first time, overtaking Honda to snap the 4th spot overall. Renault (+68%) remains strong in 6th place with 12.409 sales, 79% going to the Kwid (9.801). Ford struggles (-25%) but Volkswagen (+70%) thanks to the Ameo (#26) and Datsun (+216%) thanks to the RediGo (#25) both shine.

For the second consecutive month (and ever), no less than eight different nameplates manage to sell over 10.000 units in October in India. No surprises on top: the Maruti Alto ranks #1 but drops a harsh 18% to just 18.854 units, the nameplate’s fifth month below 20.000 sales in the past seven. The Maruti DZire fares even worse at -28% while the Swift is down 17%. As a result, the Maruti Wagon R leaps up one spot to #3 while the Hyundai Grand i10, breaking its personal monthly volume record at 14.530, is now within spitting distance of the Swift (81 sales to be exact). Among the blockbuster launches of the past few months, both the Maruti Baleno (10.718) and Vitara Brezza (10.056) also break their record, the latter posting its first-ever five-digit sales result.
