Today we can share with you for the first time on BSCB the 100 most popular models in the whole of Latin America for the first half of 2016, thanks to Autodato. The 22 markets forming the region add up to 2.6 million registrations, a 7.3% year-on-year decline mainly due to the struggle of the Brazilian market over the period (-25%). Mexico on the other hand, the second blockbuster market in the region, is up 18.5%, while Argentina is up 10%, Uruguay down 9% and Venezuela down 59%.
No facelift effect: the VW Gol is dethroned in Latin America…
The Top 100 ranking sees a momentous shift atop the charts. Its tremendous success in Brazil, the largest market in the region, is now enough for the Chevrolet Onix to become most popular nameplate in the whole of Latin America for the very first time with 76.374 units vs. 62.346 (+22.5%) a year ago. This means the end of a decades-long reign for the VW Gol, down 11.8% to 63.925 units. The Toyota Hilux, #1 in Argentina, ranks third with 56.953 sales.
The Toyota Hilux ranks third in Latin America so far in 2016.
The Hyundai HB20 – only available in Brazil, Nissan Versa, Toyota Corolla and Ford Ka are also extremely popular in the region, while the Fiat Palio, once threatening the VW Gol for supremacy, has fallen down to #7. The Honda HR-V is the best-selling SUV in the region at #8, a comfortable 13.000 units above the Renault Duster (#18), followed by the Ford Ecosport (#25), Jeep Renegade (#26), Kia Sportage (#36) and Hyundai Tucson (#38).
The Fiat Mobi is already inside the Latin American Top 100.
Below the Hilux, the best-selling pickups in Latin America are the Fiat Strada (#15), Nissan Largo (#19), VW Saveiro (#24), Ford Ranger (#30), Chevrolet S10 (#35) and VW Amarok (#41). The Ford F-Series, supreme leader in North America, only ranks 71st just above the Chevrolet Silverado in 72nd place. Among recent launches, the Fiat Toro (#46), Renault Oroch (#70) and Fiat Mobi (#84) make their appearance in the Top 100.
