Austria March 2016: Suzuki Vitara shines in VW-dominated market

New car sales in Austria are up a timid 3% year-on-year to 31.941 registrations, raising the year-to-date total to 78.455 units, up 4% on the same period in 2015. Volkswagen remains the uncontested leader with sales up 8% to 16.6% share, followed by Opel (-1%), Skoda (+1%), Ford (-8%) and Renault (+18%). BMW (+30%), Seat (+34%), Audi (+30%), Suzuki (+30%), Tesla (+102%) and Jaguar (+227%) all post significant gains whereas Hyundai tumbles down 37%. Model-wise, the VW Golf comfortably keeps the lead with 5% share despite sales down 4% year-on-year. It distances the Skoda Octavia (+28%), Opel Astra (+34%), VW Polo (+10%), Seat Ibiza (+33%) and VW Tiguan (+21%). The Seat Leon, VW Bus and Touran make it an astounding 8 Volkswagen Group nameplates inside the Top 9 like in February. The hero of the month is the Suzuki Vitara, up 42 spots on February to stop just 47 units off a Top 10 ranking.
