For only the second time ever on BSCB and thanks to NAAMSA I can share with you official information on the most popular brands and models in Lesotho, an enclaved landlocked country surrounded by South Africa and home to two million inhabitants, 40% of which live below the international poverty line of US$1 a day. Note the rankings we share only include the models imported from South Africa and reported to NAAMSA but this is almost 100% of new car sales in Lesotho. This year, Mercedes-Benz have been omitted from this study due to their irregular sales reporting.
The Toyota Etios is once again the best-selling passenger car in Lesotho.
Like in 2014, the Toyota Hilux is the best-selling light vehicle in Lesotho by far with 334 deliveries, and this despite sales down 13%. The Ford Ranger (+76%) snaps the 2nd spot away from the Toyota Etios (-44%) while the Toyota Fortuner jumps 3 spots to #5. The Top 10 passenger cars are only Toyotas (6) and Fords (4) with the Figo up to #6 and the Ecosport, Fiesta and Kuga making their first appearance. Brand-wise, Toyota and Ford stay on top, followed by Chevrolet (+2), Nissan (+3) and Volkswagen (+3) while Renault, Volvo and Mazda break into the Top 10 and Jeep is down 5 spots.
