Botswana Full Year 2015: Hilux in the lead, Datsun Go shines

Thanks to NAAMSA, we can share with you for the 2nd year in a row official sales data for Botswana. Rankings by brand and models for passenger cars and light vehicles (PC +LCV) are available and although these rankings only include the models exported from South Africa and reported to NAAMSA this is an accurate description of the new light vehicle market in Botswana as South Africa is by far the #1 provenance for imports into the country. Note Mercedes was removed from the study due to its irregular reporting. Toyota continues to dominates the brands ranking above Ford while both Nissan and Chevrolet bypass  Volkswagen to rank #3 and #4. Audi ranks at a splendid 7th place and BMW is #8.

Toyota Corolla Quest

The Toyota Hilux remains the most popular nameplate in the country with globally stable sales at 1.500 units, above the Ford Ranger (-3%) while the Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup takes a hit at -24% but stays third overall. The Nissan Hardbody (+4) makes it four pickups in the Botswana Top 4 in 2014. The Toyota Corolla is once again the best-selling passenger car here, however its low-cost variant – the previous generation renamed Corolla Quest – is catching up fast at #2 PC vs. #6 last year. Same situation for the VW Polo Vivo (+20%) overtaking the Polo (-15%). Finally, notice the Datsun GO breaking into the Top 10 passenger cars at #9.
