After imploding from an all-time high of 343,080 registrations in 2008 to just 57,710 in 2013, the Romanian new car market posts a second consecutive year of growth in 2015 at +16% to 81.162 registrations. 2014 was up 22%. Once again local carmaker Dacia outpaces its home market with sales up 20% to 26.840 for a 33.1% market share: exactly one in every three new cars sold in Romania in 2015 is a Dacia. Skoda (+9%), Volkswagen (+10%) and Ford (+0.5%) hold onto their ranking but all lose market share as opposed to Renault up 20% to 6% in 5th place. Toyota (+25%), Suzuki (+31%), Mazda (+31%), Seat (+38%), Jeep (+50%), Honda (+51%), Citroen (+75%) and Kia (+162%) also impress.
Best newcomer: the Suzuki Vitara at #25.
In the models ranking, the Dacia Logan celebrates 11 consecutive years in pole position with sales up 21% to 16.253 and a round 20% of the market, its highest share at home since 2011 when it hit 21.3%. The Logan’s personal best is locked at an incredible 41% share back in 2005. The Duster (+23%) and Sandero (+18%) also improve their penetration to 7% and 3.6% respectively while at #3 the Skoda Octavia is up just 7% to 3.370 sales. Thanks to volumes up 13% year-on-year, the Skoda Rapid breaks into the annual Romanian Top 5 for the first time, the Ford Focus is up 30% to #6, the Fiat 500L up 116% to #13 and the Kia Sportage up 142% to #15. The most popular newcomer is the Suzuki Vitara landing directly at #25.
