The Chilean new car market slows down its fall in June to -12% at 22.632 registrations, the smallest year-on-year decline thus far this year. The halfway tally stands at 130.493 units, down a sombre 21% on 2014 which was already down 9% on 2013. After finishing May only 42 sales below Chevrolet, Kia takes the advantage in June thanks to 2.385 sales and 10.5% above Chevrolet at 2.278 units and 10.1%. It’s important to note that this victory is more a weakness of Chevrolet (its 2015 market share is 13.5%) that a particular strength of Kia (10.5% is its 2015 share so far). Yet with Hyundai leading the way in January, cracks are definitely starting to show in Chevrolet’s perennial domination of the Chilean car market. Hyundai (9%) is back to #3 this month above Suzuki (8%), Nissan (7%) and Toyota (6.2%). Chinese manufacturers are improving: from 8.8% in May to 9.6% in June vs. 8.3% year-to-date, led by Great Wall (#18), Chery (#19), Dongfeng (#22) and Changan (#23).
