Now updated with sales figures for the Top 5 passenger cars and light vehicles.
New vehicle sales in Namibia are up an elephant-like 36% year-on-year in 2014 to a record 21.952 registrations compared to just 16.113 in 2013. The market is pulled upwards by commercial vehicles – mainly pickups – up 46% year-on-year to 12.323 units while passenger cars are up 26% to 9.629 deliveries. Toyota (30.6%) and Volkswagen (22.4%) dominate the passenger market whereas in the commercial aisle Toyota holds just under half of the market (47.7%) and is followed by Nissan (14.5%) and Ford (9.9%). Thanks to NAAMSA I can now offer you a lot more detail about Namibian sales charts. No surprise atop the overall brands ranking (PC+LCV): Toyota (40.2% share), Volkswagen and Nissan are on the podium. The surprise is Chinese Great Wall at #7, above both Kia and Hyundai…
The Toyota Etios is the best-selling passenger car in Namibia and #3 overall just above 1.000 annual sales, a very significant achievement for Toyota’s low-cost entry, beating the #4 ranking it achieved in neighbouring South Africa in 2013. Volkswagen places 5 nameplates in the 10 best-selling passenger cars, with Toyota placing 4, also including the Toyota Corolla Quest at #4, a previous generation Corolla still in production in South Africa. The Toyota Hilux is the overall best-seller by very far with a mammoth 20% market share, one of an incredible 8 pickup trucks among the Top 10 most popular light vehicles in Namibia, also including the Toyota Land Cruiser PU and the Great Wall Steed.
