Another timid month for new car sales in Austria: up just 0.9% year-on-year in April to 29.500 registrations, keeping the year-to-date total down 5% at 104.654 units. The VAG Group owns the brands ranking with Volkswagen up 4% to 18.9% share followed by Skoda up 10% to 7.8%. Opel rounds up the podium thanks to sales up a brilliant 17% to 2.109 and 7.1% share. Notice also Peugeot and Kia up 10%, Suzuki up 61%, Mitsubishi up 67%, Smart up 108%, Tesla up 125% and Jeep up 214%. Model-wise, the VW Golf reinforces its leadership with 2.015 deliveries and 6.8%, more than double any other nameplate in the market. The VW Polo (3.1%), Skoda Octavia (3%) and Fabia (2.3%) follow, the latter on a clear upwards trend since the launch of the new generation. The success of the 500X crossover enables the Fiat 500 nameplate to jump up to 5th place in Austria this month with 659 sales (no split sales available), with the Opel Corsa (+63% year-to-date), Astra (+69%) and Peugeot 308 (#19) the other great performers inside the Top 20.
