Year-on-year gains thaw to just +2% for the Hungarian new car market in March to 6,305 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 17,117 units, up a solid 9% on 2014. Opel becomes the most popular brand in the market this month thanks to 708 sales and 11.2% share, just above Skoda at 694 and 11% with Ford, #1 in 2014, rounding up the podium with 637 units and 10.1%. The Skoda Octavia remains head and shoulders above the competition in the models ranking with 400 sales and 6.3% share, a full two percentage points above the Opel Astra, #2 at 4.3% ahead of the Ford Focus at 3.7%. But the main event in Hungary this month is the thunderous arrival of the locally-produced Suzuki Vitara directly in 7th place with a splendid 159 sales and 2.5% share. For comparison, the Suzuki Grand Vitara sold 33 units over the Full Year 2014 in Hungary… A very promising start indeed, but not a surprise as the Vitara is much smaller than its predecessor and plays right into the current European craze for small SUVs.
