The Egyptian new car market is up 128% year-on-year in July to 22,045 registrations, however this is off a very low base as July 2013 sales were impacted by the political troubles affecting the country. The year-to-date total now stands at 155,815 registrations, up 39% on 2013. The Top 4 best-selling models are unchanged compared to both June and year-to-date: the Hyundai Verna (an Accent from two generations ago) leads the way once again with 1,770 sales and 8% share ahead of the Chevrolet TFR (aka Isuzu D-Max) at 6.6%, the Nissan Sunny at 6% and the Geely Emgrand 7 at 5.4%. The big surprise of the month is the arrival of the Chevrolet Optra directly in 5th position (vs. #117 in June!) with 854 sales and 3.9%.

Official data does not say whether this is the old or new generation (a rebadged Baojun 630) however given only the new gen is now visible on the Chevrolet Egypt webpage I will venture that this is indeed the new model gearing up very nicely. Other great performers this month include the Skoda Octavia up 10 spots on June to #10, the Renault Logan up 11 to #12, the Mitsubishi Lancer EX at #16, Mitsubishi Attrage at #29 and Chevrolet Cruze up 28 ranks to #31. Finally we welcome an all-new model inside the Egyptian Top 40 this month: the Suzuki Alto 800 landing directly at #35 with 165 sales.
