New car sales in Bulgaria are down 2% year-on-year in July to 1,974 registrations, however the year-to-date total is still up on 2013 at an estimated 15,104 units, up 10%. Keep in mind Bulgarian sales data is always to be taken with a pinch of salt: a large portion of new car sales in the country never make it to local roads but are re-exported elsewhere in the European Union, given Bulgaria is home to some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon. In this context, Ford delivers a particularly strong month in July, jumping to pole position with 12.5% share and placing the Ford Fiesta in the lead of the models ranking at 7.2%. Volkswagen follows at 10.3% ahead of Nissan (7.6%), Dacia and Toyota (both at 7.5%).

Boosted by the new model, the Nissan Qashqai is the 2nd best-selling model in the country this month thanks to 80 sales and 4.1% share, with the Dacia Dokker rounding up the monthly podium but still in the lead year-to-date at 677 units and 4.5%. Notice also the Renault Captur up 10 spots on June to an excellent 4th position, the Kia Cee’d and Ford Focus both up 12 to #5 and #6 respectively, the Opel Astra up 17 to #7 and the Great Wall Steed maintaining itself inside the Top 10 at #9 vs. #22 year-to-date. Finally, the Peugeot 308 is up 53 ranks to #13. the Mazda CX-5 up 19 to #20 and the BMW X5 up 25 to #22.
