No improvement in sight for new car sales in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory located North-East of Australia: down a harsh 25% year-on-year in May to just 639 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 3,924 units, down 8% on 2013. The Ford Ranger remains the most popular vehicle on the territory by far with 41 sales and 6.4% but whereas the top of the models sales charts is traditionally dominated by pick-up trucks due to advantageous tax for this type of vehicle, this month the Renault Clio jumps 3 spots on April to land in 2nd place with 3.6% of the market vs. #9 and 2% so far this year. The Dacia Duster remains third while the Toyota Hilux is down two ranks to #4. Other great performers this month include the Kia Sportage up 13 to #6, the Peugeot 208 up to #9 and the Toyota Land Cruiser up to a fantastic 10th spot.
