Slovakia March 2014: Skoda Octavia resumes domination

Traditionally coming to you with a little delay, today I can share with you Slovak sales data for March, when 6,508 new light vehicles found a buyer, adding up to 18,133 units year-to-date including LCVs. After two months of chaos that successively saw the Kia Cee’d then the VW Golf unbelievably take the lead of the models sales charts (in the case of the Golf this may have had a lot to do with a one off Police fleet purchase), March is back to some kind of normalcy. Skoda monopolises the podium as it did over the Full Year 2013: the Octavia is the best-selling model in the country thanks to 331 sales and 5.1%, only 3 units above the Fabia at 328 sales and 5%, with the Rapid rounding up the podium at 277 units and 4.3% – 52% of which are the Spaceback hatchback variant.

The Hyundai i30 is the best-selling foreign model in Slovakia this month.

However this is not enough to dislodge the VW Golf from the #1 spot year-to-date even though the German model is down to 5th place in March. It totals 1,025 sales so far in 2014 for a 5.7% market share vs. 963 for the Octavia and 955 for the Rapid – both models holding 5.3% share of the Slovak market. In March the Hyundai i30 is the most popular foreign model (even though it is produced in neighbouring Czech Republic) in 4th place with an excellent 3.5% share, while its little sister the i20 is up to #9. Notice also the Nissan Qashqai and Opel Corsa both up 23 spots on February to #13 and #14 respectively, the Peugeot 2008 up 13 to #22 and just one unit below the 208, the Mitsubishi ASX up 40 ranks to #28, BMW X1 up 102 to #38 and the Dacia Dokker up 55 to #50.
