As is the tradition on BSCB, after going through overall German sales for April, we explore the sales to private buyers in the country, painting a very different picture once again. German Private Sales (PS) data is always a little controversial because of the definition of a ‘private sale’ in Germany. Are counted as private the cars sold to private buyers. Demo cars, rental cars and long-term leases are not counted as private along with cars sold to companies. This explains the fact that as cars become more expensive, their Private Sales ratio tends to drop: a lot of them are actually on a long-term lease, which can be argued is a private ‘sale’. In April 104,705 new cars were purchased by private buyers in Germany in April, that’s a 38.2% PS ratio compared to 37.5% in March.
Two-thirds of Peugeot 2008 were bought by private consumers in April in Germany.
The VW Golf still dominates the charts with 6,557 private sales in spite of a low 30% PS ratio, but the VW Tiguan is catching up at 4,169 and 60.7%, followed by the Mercedes C-Class at 2,638 and 47.6% and the B-Class back up to #4 with 2,394 private units and 63.2%. Notice also the Ford Fiesta up 7 spots on March to #6, the Fiat Ducato also up 7 to an amazing 7th place, the VW Up up 4 to #8 and the Mercedes E-Class up 14 to #12. Once again best performers in the PS ratio game include almost the entire Dacia range with the Sandero at 91.3%, Duster at 89.1% and Logan at 81.5%. The Skoda Yeti at 73.5% and Peugeot 2008 at 67.7% also impress.
