The New Zealand new car market does show any sign of slowing down… at all. It is up a further 14% year-on-year in February to 9,058 registrations, split between 6,491 new passenger cars (best February since 1989) and 2,567 new commercial vehicles (best February since records began in 1981!). Big event in the passenger cars brand ranking: Holden is up 59% year-on-year to beat Toyota for the first time in years. Another first: for the first time since last August the Toyota Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in the country thanks to 390 sales and 4.3% vs. 311 units for both the Toyota Corolla and the Ford Ranger.

The best performer of the month is without contest the Holden Captiva up 13 spots on January and 95% year-on-year to #4 with 279 units and 3.1%. Other brilliant gainers this month include the Hyundai Santa Fe up 12 ranks on last month to #8, the Toyota Hiace up 13 to #10, the Mazda3 up 7 to #11, Hyundai ix35 up 8 to #13 and the Hyundai iLoad landing at #20.
