Switzerland Full Year 2013: VW Golf celebrates 20 years at #1, BMW 3 Series up 53% to #3

New car sales in Switzerland are down 6% year-on-year in 2013 to 307,885 registrations. The VW Golf passes a very significant milestone this year in Switzerland: it has now been the best-selling car in the country for 20 years in a row! The last time it didn’t finish the year #1 was in 1993 when the Opel Astra took the lead. This year the Golf also lodges its highest annual volume in 12 years – since 2001 when it sold 16,704 units – with sales up 8% on 2012 to 13,408 units and 4.4% share. The Skoda Octavia (-4%) and VW Polo (-12%) also hold onto their 2012 ranking, while the BMW 3 Series delivers an impressive 53% gain, going from #18 in 2012 to #4 this year with 5,653 sales and 1.8%.
First year inside the annual Swiss Top 10 for the Suzuki SX4.
Other great performers this year include the Audi A3 up 22% and 15 spots to #6, the Peugeot 208 up 114% and 47 ranks to #8, Suzuki SX4 up 44% and 22 spots to #9, BMW 1 Series up 10% and 12 ranks to #10, Mercedes A Class up a huge 86% and 43 spots to #15 thanks to the new model, Seat Leon up 46% and 33 ranks to #29 and the Toyota Auris up 63% and 68 spots to #32. Among the newcomers in the Swiss Top 100 this year are the Opel Mokka up to #36, Volvo V40 up to #43, Mazda3 up to #67, Opel Adam landing directly at #84 with 1,192 sales, the Renault Captur appearing at #85 with 1,147 units and the Peugeot 2008 at #93 and 1,047 sales.
