India December 2013: Maruti Alto and Swift at highest in one year

New car sales in India are down for the 4th month in a row in December at -5% year-on-year to 180,713 registrations, bringing the final 2013 total to an estimated 2,470,000 units including premium brands, down 7% on 2012. December is traditionally a good month for Maruti and this year is now exception: Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary grabs 48% of the market, with both the Maruti Alto at #1 and 13.2% and the Swift at #2 and 9.3% hitting their best market shares in a year.
Only 554 Tata Nano found a buyer in India this month.
The Maruti DZire at #3 and 8.5% and Wagon R at #4 and 6.7% are also above their annual levels, while the Maruti Omni is up 3 spots on November to #7. The Hyundai Grand i10 delivers another solid month in 5th place with 5% share, the Honda Amaze is down to #11 as customers await the arrival of the all-new City, the Ford Ecosport is back up one spot to #13, the Toyota Etios is up 7 to #18, the Renault Duster down 4 to #21 and the Nissan Terrano down 11 to #31. Finally, the Tata Nano is down 75% year-on-year to just 554 sales, its 2nd lowest-ever monthly score below the 509 units it sold in November 2010.
