New car sales in France are back into negative territory in November at -4% year-on-year to 138,279 registrations, however with the same amount of business days as November 2012 the market would actually be up by 6%. Year-to-date scores are down 7% on 2012 at 1,644,606 units. The Renault Clio IV celebrates one year since it first topped the French sales charts, however its market share is down to a weak 4.4% vs. 5.7% year-to-date, as is the Peugeot 208 down to 3.8% vs. 5.1% and threatened for its second spot by the Citroen C3 at 6,080 sales and 3.6%. The Citroen even led the overall models ranking for the first 3 weeks of the month!
The Renault Captur has been among the Top 5 best-sellers for the last 6 consecutive months.
We may not have to look too far to find the culprits for these unusually low market shares: the mini-SUVs derived from the two best-sellers are making tsunami-sized waves once again this month. The Peugeot 2008 confirms the all-time high 4th position it hit last month by selling 4,459 units for a 2.7% market share and is now #18 year-to-date. Most importantly, it beats its archenemy the Renault Captur for the 2nd month running. The Captur still impresses though, lodging an astounding 6th consecutive month inside the French Top 5 at #5 with 4,282 sales and 2.5%. It should break into the year-to-date Top 10 just in time for the Full Year 2013 ranking…
Second Top 10 ranking for the Peugeot 308 II.
In 6th place the Dacia Sandero is up 6 spots on October and returns to its year-to-date ranking, while the Citroen C4 Picasso II is back below the Renault Scenic at a still very satisfying #8 spot with 3,532 sales and 2.1%. The 2nd generation Peugeot 308 ranks within the 10 most popular models in the country for the 2nd consecutive time at #10 with 3,168 units and 1.9% and leads its segment once again however with the tiniest margin over the VW Golf VII, #11 with 3,141 sales. Notice the Renault Megane down 5 ranks to a paltry #16, the Toyota Auris splendid once again at a best-ever #30, the Mini up 15 spots to #38, Kia Sportage up one to #43, Toyota RAV4 up 11 to #48 and the Mini Countryman up 22 to #51.
