Every month I share with you local Iranian production figures as sales data is unavailable, however this is a pretty accurate picture of what cars are the most popular in the country as imports are limited. October 2013 is roughly equivalent to Mehr, the 7th month of the year 1392 in the Persian calendar. After surging by 20% last month, Iranian production is back down 5% year-on-year in Mehr to 56,648 units, bringing the year-to-date total after 7 months to 311,155 units, down 32% on the previous year. Below the Saipa Pride still sovereign but down 34%, the Peugeot Pars lodges its 2nd consecutive month above 10,000 units (whereas this had not happened in the last 3 years before last month!), up a fantastic 120% year-on-year to 10,533 units. In fact the Top 4 is unchanged vs. last month with the Iran Khodro Samand at #3 and the Peugeot 405 at #4.
This month’s Iranian data confirms Peugeot is back on track in Iran: the Peugeot 206 has resumed production with 2,585 units vs. just 3 one year ago. Only the Peugeot 207i is still idle. The Iran Khodro Runna, based on the Peugeot 206, is up 271% to #6, but the big news this month are Chinese: Lifan is back in the ranking and places the X60 SUV directly at #10 for its very first month of production in the country thanks to 1,018 units. The Lifan 620 for its part is #11 with 657 units. Finally, we welcome the GAC Gonow Aoosed G5 at #20 with its first 7 units produced this month, I believe by local company Morattab which also assembles a Land Rover Defender clone locally, called the Pazhan 3000.
Previous month: Iran September 2013: Peugeot back on track in market up 20%
One year ago: Iran October 2012: Iran Khodro Runna and Great Wall Voleex C30 up
