South Korea August 2013: Hyundai Avante #1 for 1st time this year

110,338 new local models found a buyer in South Korea in August, bringing the year-to-date total to 909,374 units, up 1% on 2012. The race to the title of 2013 best-selling model continues, and is as tight as ever: down to #3 year-to-date last month, the Kia Morning (aka Picanto) reclaims the lead thanks to a solid 2nd spot in August: it now adds up to 62,123 units vs. 61,153 for the Hyundai Grandeur and 60,736 for the Hyundai Porter. For the first time so far in 2013, the Hyundai Avante (aka Elantra) tops the monthly sales charts with 7,905 units sold thanks to the mid-life upgrade the model just received at home. The Kia K5 (aka Optima) is up one spot to #6 while the Kia Sportage R is up 6 to deliver the biggest gain in the Top 20 at #8 with 5,191 sales thanks to the facelifted model. Notice also the Daewoo Damas up 9 ranks to #25 and the Chevrolet Aveo up 10 to #33.
