Another very healthy month for Mexican new car sales, up 6% year-on-year in August to 88,332 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 676,964 units, up 9% on 2012. After ending 19 months of Chevrolet Aveo reign in July, the VW Clasico confirms its newly reacquired top spot this month thanks to 4,670 sales and 5.3% share vs. 4,579 and 5.2% for the Aveo, which nevertheless remains #1 year-to-date at 40,044 units and 5.9% vs. 35,218 and 5.2%. In fact, it’s a little like we’re back into the past in August, with the Nissan Tsuru also coming out of its tomb to land in third place with 4,436 sales and 5%, up a whopping 56% year-on-year and its strongest market share since October 2010! The Nissan Versa is also in good shape at 4.6% while the Ford Escape is back up to 1.6% thanks to the new generation.
