New Zealand April 2013: Ford Ranger ends Toyota Corolla reign

Another outstanding month for new car sales in New Zealand, up 16% year-on-year in April to 8,143 registrations. This brings the year-to-date total to 34,887 units, up 11% on 2012. In the detail, the April figure is split between 5,908 Passenger Cars (+9%) and 2,235 Commercial Vehicles, a huge 38% year-on-year increase and the best April since 1982! After 7 consecutive months of Toyota Corolla domination, the Ford Ranger brilliantly takes top honours home in April thanks to 416 units sold and 5.1% share. It is the third time in the last 13 months (after April and July 2012) that the Ranger tops the NZ ranking.
Further down, notice the Toyota RAV4 up 3 ranks to #6 (and now #9 year-to-date vs. #17 in 2012), the Mazda CX-5 up 7 to #7, the Holden Commodore back within the Kiwi Top 10 at #10 and the VW Golf up 7 to #14.
