New car sales in the Czech Republic are down 7% year-on-year to 12,071 registrations. For the 7th time in the last 12 months, the models podium is 100% Skoda in January but there is a newcomer in the gang this month… Now that the new generation Octavia has been introduced, the model is back up to stratospheric heights with 1,640 sales and 13.6% share, while the Fabia is shy again at 807 units and 6.7%. After a few months of stop-and-go, the Skoda Rapid takes off in January, up 9 spots on last month to land at #3 with 405 sales and 3.4%. It could go further up later on in 2013, but it is very difficult to predict where the Rapid will stabilise, because it is the first time a model of that size gets introduced in the Skoda range, and some cannibalisation with the Fabia and newly ‘premiumised’ Octavia will occur.
The Hyundai ix20 is up 8 spots on December to reach a record 6th place at 255 units and 2.1%, beating its previous best of #8 reached first in January 2012. Other great performers this month include the Hyundai i20 up 17 ranks to #9, the Mazda CX-5 up 34 to a best-ever #18, Hyundai i40 up to #28 vs. #60 in 2012, Audi A3 up 38 to #47 and the Citroen C3 Picasso up 86 to #48. Finally, the Citroen C-Elysee lands directly inside the Czech Top 50 at #45 with 60 sales, the Peugeot 301 is up 14 spots to #69, the Seat Toledo lands at #136 and the Range Rover, boosted by the new model, is up to #150.
