This is it. The Argentinean car market is going up no more. After keeping us on a hook, up 35% in March, down 8% in April and up again 12% in May, new car sales are now down a definitive 19% year-on-year in June to 62,461 registrations, marking a true halt to over 2 years of consistent year-on-year growth. At 447,846 units the year-to-date total is still up on 2011 but by just 2%.
In this context the models ranking is actually really stable this month with the Chevrolet Classic hitting its highest market share since February 2011 at 6.6% thanks to 4,102 sales, followed by the VW Gol Trend at 4.2%, the VW Gol Power at 3.5%, the Peugeot 207 Compact at 3.1% and the VW Suran at 3%, up 5 spots on May to reclaim its traditional 5th position.
Good performers this month include the Chevrolet Agile up 4 ranks to #9, the Chevrolet Aveo up 6 to #12, the Renault Duster up 2 to #15 and the Peugeot 308 at #18. Notice also the Fiat 500 up to #44 and the Chevrolet Sonic up to #46.
