Icelandic new car sales are up 83% on last month to 1,334 registrations in May, bringing the year-to-date total to 3,288 units in 5 months compared to 5,034 over the Full Year 2011… While in April the Skoda Octavia was #1 like in 2011, this month Toyota dominates the ranking and places the Auris in pole position with 95 sales and 7.1% share. We now also have access to 2012 year-to-date data and it shows the Toyota Yaris in the lead with 201 units and 6.1% while it ranks #2 this month in spite of a stronger share at 6.9%.
Given the size of the Icelandic market it is fair to assume that the models ranking is strongly influenced by sales to car rental companies, so May 2012 must have been a month of Toyota deliveries… The Toyota Land Cruiser 150 goes from #30 in April to #3 this month with 74 sales and 5.5%, making the May podium 100% Toyota. It also rounds up the podium in 2012 year-to-date behind the Skoda Octavia, down to #9 in May.
Very solid performances of the Suzuki Swift at 5% share and the Kia Cee’d up a huge 22 spots on March to #5 with 61 sales and 4.7%. The Nissan Qashqai is stable at #6, followed by the VW Polo (+11 but also #7 in 2012) and Golf (+23). The Chevrolet Spark is down from #2 last month to #10. Further down, notice the Honda Jazz at #12, the Chevrolet Aveo landing at #14, the Suzuki Jimny at #15, the Nissan Note at #18, the Kia Picanto up to #23, the Nissan Pathfinder up to #32, the Land Rover Discovery at #33 and the Subaru XV at #48.
