June 30th, 2012 1 comment

Skoda Fabia

* See the Top 20 best-selling brands by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Oscar *

Thanks to Oscar I can now share with you a Top 20 brands ranking for Bosnia & Herzegovina. In 2011 the Bosnian new car market is down 2% to 8,750 registrations. Skoda stays by far the favourite brand in the country with over 20% of the market thanks to 1,762 sales. In all likelihood the Skoda Fabia should still be the best-selling model in Bosnia in 2011 followed by the Skoda Octavia.

Volkswagen delivers an excellent year at #2 with 1,365 units and 15.6% share, up 17% on 2010. Opel rounds up the brands podium with 830 sales and 9.5%, ahead of Renault at 7.8%, Chevrolet at 7.4%, Dacia at 6.8%, Citroen at 5.1%, Audi at 3.9%, Toyota at 3.8% and Ford at 3.5%.

June 30th, 2012 No comments

The Opel Corsa could potentially be the best-selling model in Macedonia.

* See the Top 20 best-selling brands by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Goran *

Macedonia is another unloved country on Best Selling Cars Blog, with the only information until now a Top 10 models ranking dating back to 2007. Thanks to Goran I can share with you some more recent data. The Macedonian new car market hit a record year in 2008, up 19% to 17,744 registrations, then fell by 34% in 2009 to 11,682 units, down 32% in 2010 to 8,000 and down 38% in 2011 to just 5,000 sales.

The most recent brands info dates back to the first half of 2009 and back then Opel dominated the ranking with 712 sales ahead of Volkswagen at 682 and Ford at 654. Peugeot and Chevrolet were equal-4th with 583 units each, followed by Fiat (537), Citroen (454), Toyota (394), Skoda (321) and Kia (301).

Cyprus April 2012: Ford and Nissan most popular

June 30th, 2012 No comments

The Nissan Qashqai could be the best-selling car in Cyprus.

* See the Top 20 best-selling brands by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Oscar *

Cyprus had been unloved since 2006, date of the latest official models data I got for this country. Thanks to Oscar I can now share with you a Top 20 brands ranking, it’s not a models ranking but that’s the closest thing I have. The Cypriot new car market is struggling at -23% year-on-year over the first 4 months of 2011 to 4,329 registrations. Nissan was the best-selling brand in the country in 2011 with 15,2% of the market but is down to #2 this year at 496 sales and 11.5% below Ford with 565 units and 13.1%.

Based on this information it is possible that the Nissan Qashqai was the best-selling model in Cyprus in 2011 and could still be in pole position year-to-date in 2012, potentially ahead of the Ford Focus. Toyota rounds up the brands podium with 461 sales and 10.6%, ahead of Kia in very strong progression at #4 with 340 units and 7.9% (vs. #10 and 3.8% in 2011), Hyundai at 7.3% and Volkswagen at 6.2%. Mercedes is #7, Audi #8 and BMW #9. Notice also Land Rover breaking into the Top 20 at #18 thanks to the Range Rover Evoque.

If you have access to models data for Cyprus for any time after 2006 please get in touch by commenting on this article!

Kuwaiti new car sales are up 35% year-on-year in May to 12,108 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 57,505 units, up 20% on 2011. After a weak month of March, the Toyota Prado reaffirms its total domination of the models ranking in Kuwait, grabbing 11.1% of the market in April and an astounding 16.8% in May thanks to 2,038 sales. The Prado is in pole position in the 2012 year-to-date ranking with 5,471 units and 9.5%, nearly double its Full Year 2011 market share (5.1%) which was already enough to place it #1…

Hyundai Tucson

The Top 4 models are unchanged on April: the Toyota Hilux ranks #2 with 558 sales and 4.6%, followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser at 432 units and 3.6% and the Toyota Camry with 374 sales and 3.1%. The Hyundai Tucson is up 5 spots to #5 with 283 units and 2.3% and now ranks #11 year-to-date vs. #20 in 2011. The Dodge Charger delivers an exceptional month: selling 246 units for a 2% market share it reaches the 7th place overall which should be its highest ranking anywhere in the world… It is #18 year-to-date vs. #27 in 2011.

Toyota Sequoia

Other great performers this month in Kuwait include the Hyundai Elantra up 66 spots to #9, the Chevrolet Malibu up 84 to #12, the Chevrolet Caprice up 15 to #14, the Mitsubishi L200 up 27 to #22, while the Hyundai Azera (#20 in April, #26 this month) and Toyota Sequoia (#18 last month, #33 in May) lodge another solid month.

* See the Top 100 best-selling models by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Ldman *

The Emirati new car market is in full swing in 2012: up 49% year-on-year in May to 27,283 registrations and up 50% year-to-date to 123,486 units. While in 2011 the Toyota Corolla snatched a last minute pole position from the Toyota Hilux, this year the fight is even more intense and involves 4 Toyotas. The Land Cruiser is the most popular model in the country in May with 1,665 sales and 6.1%, ahead of the Corolla at 1,535 and 5.6%, the Hilux at 1,505 and 5.5% and the Prado at 5.1%.

Toyota Prado

In April it was a completely different story: the Prado took the lead with a brilliant 6.7% markets share and was followed by the Hilux (5.6%) and Land Cruiser (5.3%). Year-to-date in 2012, we have yet another picture with the Hilux in command at 5.7% followed by the Land Cruiser at 5.1% and the Prado and Corolla both at 4.6%. Plus in May two additional Toyotas rank in the Top 6: the Camry at #5 with a strong 3.6% share and the Land Cruiser Pick-up having a huge month at 3.3% share vs. 1.9% year-to-date and 1.5% in 2011…

Hyundai Azera

Other great performers this month include the Mitsubishi Pajero up 13 spots on April to #10, the Nissan Sunny very solid at #12, the BMW X5 up 5 to #19, the Hyundai Santa Fe up 23 to #21, the Kia Rio up 7 to #33, the Hyundai Azera up to #39, the Nissan Micra up 69 ranks to #46, the BMW 6 Series up to #59 and the Renault Duster landing at #72.

Luxembourg May 2012: Volkswagen and Audi dominate

June 30th, 2012 1 comment

The new Audi A3 could be the reason why Audi is threatening VW in Luxembourg in May.

* See the Top 20 best-selling brands by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Oscar *

Luxembourg was one of the countries I didn’t have any news from since 2010… Thanks to Oscar I can share with you a Top 20 brands ranking, as there is still no models info readily available. If you know about the best-selling models in Luxembourg in 2011 and 2012 please make sure to get in touch by commenting on this post! New car sales in Luxembourg are down 15% year-on-year in May at 4,833 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 23,717 units, down 3% on 2011.

Volkswagen is still top of the class with 596 sales and 12.3% share in May and 3,119 and 13.2% year-to-date, however Audi is catching up: it holds the 2nd spot year-to-date with 2,196 units and 9.3% but takes off in May to 542 sales and a brilliant 11.2% market share! BMW rounds up the podium at 2,119 units and 8.9%, followed by Renault at 8.1%, Peugeot at 6.6% and Mercedes at 6.3%.

Northern Ireland (UK) 2011: VW Golf #1, 207 and Avensis shine

June 30th, 2012 No comments

VW Golf

* See the Top 10 best-selling models by clicking on the title! *

After Scotland we are adding Norhern Ireland as a new territory covered by Best Selling Cars Blog. Unfortunately the most recent models data I found dates back to January 2011 so if you have any newer figures please make sure you get in touch by commenting on this post! In January 2011 the VW Golf was the best-seller in Northern Ireland, followed by the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus. Until now, nothing too surprising as these 3 models also are within the UK Top 5.

Peugeot 207

However in 4th place we find the Peugeot 207, a clear improvement on the 9th place it holds in the UK at the same time. The Nissan Qashqai is also more successful in NI than in the UK at #5 vs. #10. The best-selling Vauxhall in NI is only 7th and it’s the Corsa. Notice also the Toyota Avensis at a brilliant #10, a position it is very far from holding in the UK ranking.

Lexus LX

* See the Top 75 best-selling models by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Ldman *

Qatari new car sales are on fire this year: up 71% year-on-year in May to 8,180 registrations and up 40% year-to-date at 35,401 units. While the Toyota Land Cruiser is still in pole position year-to-date with 4,020 sales and 11.4% share, it is down to #2 in May for the second month in a row at 927 units and 11.3% down from 12.2% in April and passed by the Toyota Hilux at 1,116 sales and 13.6%, a stable share on April. The Hilux is #2 year-to-date with 3,391 units and 9.6%.

Only #8 over the Full Year 2011, the Toyota Prado is up to #3 both in May at 552 sales and 6.7% and year-to-date with 1,831 units and 5.2% vs. 2.4% in 2011. The Nissan D22 is solid at #4 with 3.5% ahead of the Lexus LX, extremely impressive since the start of 2012: after two months at 3.9% share it is down to a still excellent 3.1% in May and ranks #7 year-to-date with 979 sales and 2.8%, Qatar being the LX’s best performing country in the world.

Notice also the Porsche Cayenne holding itself within the Qatari Top 20 for the second consecutive month: after ranking #16 in April with 1.2% share it is #19 this month with 85 sales and 1% and #25 year-to-date at 0.8% compared to #38 in 2011. France 19-25 June 2012: Will Renault Scenic resist Clio?

June 30th, 2012 No comments

Renault Scenic

* See the Top 10 best-selling models by clicking on the title! *

The French new car market is down 10% over the first 25 days of June to 147,747 registrations, including 49,469 for the 19-25 June week. Traditionally Renault sales are skewed towards the end of the month and this is illustrated by the fact that there are 3 Renaults in the Top 4 this week: the Clio leads at 4.6% while the Megane is #3 at 4.3% followed by the Scenic at 4.1%. The Citroen C3 is at #2 with 4.6% and the Peugeot 208 at a slightly disappointing 5th place but with a record 3.8% share thanks to 1,894 sales this week.

In the ‘month-to-date’ ranking the Renault Scenic is still in pole position with 6,116 sales and 4.1% share and could very well resist the end-of-month assault of the Renault Clio to keep the lead over the full month for the first time since June 2005. The Citroen C3 is at a brilliant #2 with 5,878 units and 4% while the Peugeot 208 is #4 at 5,085 sales and 3.4%. The Citroen C4 is back in the Top 10 at #10 with 2.2%.

Ecuador 2010: Chevrolet Aveo Activo & Luv D-Max dominate

June 30th, 2012 1 comment

Chevrolet Aveo Activo

* See the Top 12 best-selling models by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Oscar *

A few days ago I called for your help to get more recent official data for some countries – and you heard my call! Thanks to Oscar I am now able to share with you 2010 data for Ecuador. Not the most recent but better than 2009… In 2010 Ecuadorian new car sales take off, up a massive 42% year-on-year to 132,172 registrations. Chevrolet owns the market with a mammoth 40.4% market share thanks to 53,429 sales with Hyundai at #2 with 13% ahead of Kia at 8.2%, Nissan at 7.1%, Toyota at 6.6% and Mazda at 6.5%.

Chevrolet Grand Vitara

In the models ranking the 2003 Chevrolet Aveo Hatchback, called Aveo Activo locally, is the most popular model in Ecuador again with 10,844 sales and 8.2% share. It is followed by the Chevrolet Luv D-Max at 8,746 units and 6.6% and the Mazda BT-50 with 7,421 sales and 5.6%. If the more recent Chevrolet Grand Vitara SZ is down 1% and one spot to #4 at 5.4%, the older Chevrolet Grand Vitara is up a very healthy 39% to #5 with 6,377 sales and 4.8%.

The sedan version of the first generation Chevrolet Aveo is still on sale in Ecuador under the name Aveo Family and it comes from outside the Top 10 in 2009 to #6 this year at 5,280 units and 4%. Notice also the Hyundai Accent up 62% to #7, the Toyota Hilux up 27% to #8 and the Nissan Sentra up 41% to #9.
