Spain March 2012: Seat Ibiza #1 at highest share in 2 years

Spanish car sales slow their fall at -4% year-on-year in March to 84,538 registrations, still the 2nd lowest month of March in the last 20 years after 2009. The total after 3 months stands at 204,382 units, down 2% and here too the 2nd lowest result in the last 20 years after 2009. Helped by its recent refresh, the Seat Ibiza reaches its strongest market share in at least 2 years at 5% thanks to 4,187 sales. It has led the Spanish market 8 times in the last 12 months and is also #1 in the 2012 year-to-date ranking at 8,256 units and 4%.
The Nissan Qashqai is back up 4 spots on February to reach a solid second place with 2,966 sales and 3.5%, it is also #2 year-to-date. Only 23 units below, the Ford Fiesta is up no less than 15 ranks in third position, followed by the VW Polo up 5 spots and the Renault Megane up 3 ranks. The VW Golf is down 2 spots to #6 and the Opel Corsa is down 5 to #7. Good month for the Citroen C3 up to #10 (+7), the Toyota Yaris up to #14 (+17), the Mercedes B-Class up to #24 (+31) and the Nissan Micra up to #29 (+27).
Two recent launches progress significantly this month: the VW Up! is… well up 20 spots to #102 with 154 sales and 0.2% and the Mazda CX-5 is up 56 ranks to #116 at 107 units and 0.1%. Finally, two new models make their very first appearance in the ranking: the Citroen C4 Aircross lands in 183rd position with 30 sales while the Peugeot 208 is #190 at 28 units.
