For the first time on Best Selling Cars Blog and thanks to Pachilla I can share with you a Top 150 models ranking for the Dominican Republic over the Full Year 2011, bringing to 70 the number of countries with official 2011 data on this blog! The Dominican car market is down 7% in 2011 to 19,351 registrations and one model is head and shoulders above the competition: the Hyundai Tucson is the best-seller in the country with 1,429 sales and 7.4% share albeit down 16% on 2010 despite the arrival of the new model.

Ford Explorer

The Isuzu D-Max is up 9% to #2 at 795 units and 4.1%, only 5 above the Toyota Hilux, down 25%. Excellent year for the Ford Explorer up 50% to 759 sales in 4th place, and for the Kia Sportage up 63% to 647 units at #6. The best performer in the Top 10 is the Hyundai Accent benefiting from the launch of the new generation and up a massive 527% and 33 spots on 2010 to land in 8th position with 633 sales.

Dongfeng Cargo Van

Other great performers this year include the Jeep Grand Cherokee up… 1029% to #12, the Kia Sorento up 808% to #13 and the Kia Picanto up 117% to #15. Chinese manufacturers are relatively strong here, however unlike in 2010 when the BYD F3 was #9 but dropped 86% this year, there is no Chinese model in the Top 20. The best-sellers are commercial vehicles: the Dongfeng Cargo Van leads the way at #14, up 24 spots and a huge 342% on 2010 to 451 sales.

Jinbei Haise

The second best-selling Chinese model in Dominican Republic in 2011 is the Jinbei Haise, based on a previous generation Toyota Hiace, up a massive 171% to #18 with 274 sales, followed by the Dongfeng Minitruck at #21, down 29% to 189 units. Finally, notice the outrageously expensive Porsche Cayenne up 43% to #41 with a remarkable 87 units sold.

I will be shipping my 2012 Tucson to Punta Cana in January 2013 and I will still be under warranty from the purchase in the USA. Where is the dealership in the DR and is my vehicle bought in the USA under warranty in the DR when I move it there?

Interesting to know about Dominican Republic car sales. I´ve been in that wonderful island in 2001 and I was delighted! I remember that the majority of cars were japonese. I knew the whole island from North to South; rented a Ford festiva very similar to an ancient Kia pride.
