UK January 2012: Ford Fiesta and Audi A3 at best in 2 years

The British new car market is stable in January at 128,853 registrations. The Ford Fiesta leads the ranking for the 11th consecutive month and with 7,824 sales and 6.1% it delivers its highest market share in at least 2 years. The Ford Focus follows, up to #2 for the first time since last September at 5,643 units and 4.4% while the VW Golf is back on the podium for the 2nd time in the last 3 months and the 5th time in the last year with 3,992 sales and 3.1%.
Weak month for Vauxhall with the Corsa down to #4, the Astra down to #5 and the Insignia at #7, all below their 2011 levels. The VW Polo and Nissan Qashqai stay solid at #6 and #8 respectively, the Audi A3 reappears in the Top 10 for the 2nd time in 6 months at #9 with 2,380 sales and 1.8%. It is the A3’s highest position in the UK since it ranked #7 in April 2010. As for the Peugeot 207 at #10, it makes its first appearance in the Top 10 since March 2011.
