Spain January 2012: Nissan Qashqai leads at highest share ever

Is it the end of the tunnel for the Spanish car market? In January, new car sales are up 2% year-on-year to 55,029 registrations, however still the second worst January figure in 16 years… For only the second time after December 2010, the Nissan Qashqai is the best-selling car in Spain this month with 2,232 sales and 4.1% market share, its highest ever and the first time it goes over 4%. An excellent start of the year for the Japanese crossover, 18 months after its facelift.
Far below in 2nd place we find the Peugeot 207, up 6 spots on December to 1,818 units and 3.3% and reaching its highest position in over 2 years. The Citroen C4 follows and here too it reaches new heights: at #3 with 1,626 sales and 3% this is by far the strongest month of the 2nd generation model. Also very strong this month is the Peugeot 308 to to #4, its best ranking in 13 months. All these great performances mean the Seat Ibiza, year-end leader since 2008, is down to #5 at 2.8%.
The Hyundai ix35 lodges its best month ever in Spain, up to a fantastic 11th spot with 997 sales and 1.8% share. The BMW 1 Series is at its highest since February 2011 in 13th place at 979 units and 1.8% also, the Audi A3 is up 23 ranks to #17, the Mercedes C-Class up 11 spots to #19, the VW Tiguan up 17 ranks to #26 and the Range Rover Evoque breaks into the Spanish Top 50 for the very first time at #41 with a brilliant 416 sales and 0.8% share.
Further down the ranking, the Opel Zafira Tourer is up 57 spots and 123% for its second month at #78 and 196 units, the VW Beetle is up no less than 100 ranks to #88 with 145 sales, the Subaru XV sells 33 units at #169 for its very first month and the Infiniti FX breaks into the Top 200 at #183 with 26 sales.
