Japan Kei cars September 2011: Daihatsu Mira up to #2

While the Japanese passenger car market is up by 1.7% this month, the Kei cars market is still down year-on-year at -9%. The Suzuki Wagon R leads the way for the 7th consecutive month with 16,244 sales and 121,012 year-to-date. This month’s best performer is the Daihatsu Mira, up 3 spots on August and 58% year-on-year to #2 at 14,919 units. It is up to #4 year-to-date with 62,441 sales (-23%).
The Daihatsu Tanto stays #3 ahead of the Daihatsu Move, Suzuki Alto and Nissan Moco, stable at #6 but up 25% year-on-year. The Suzuki Palette (+33%), Nissan Roox (+8%) and Honda Life (+13%) also shine. September saw the first 216 sales of the Toyota Pixis Space, Toyota’s first ever Kei car but in actual fact a rebadged Daihatsu Move Conte.
