For the first time since August 2010, the Japanese car market is up year-on-year, but at a very shy +1.7% and 313,790 registrations. The year-to-date total is still down 26% though. It’s business as usual for the Toyota Prius, in pole position this month with a massive 33,197 sales, up 22% on September 2010. The Honda Fit is not far behind at 27,980 units, up an impressive 91% probably thanks to the arrival of the Fit Shuttle version.
Way behind, the Toyota Vitz (aka Yaris) and Nissan Serena follow. In fact the Top 6 is identical to August with the Toyota Corolla and Mazda Demio (aka Mazda2) ranking 5th and 6th. The Nissan Juke is up 3 spots to #13, the Subaru Legacy is up 9 spots to #21 and the Mazda Premacy (#26) and Toyota Crown (#30) are back in the Top 30.
