For the first time in 13 months, the English car market is up year-on-year, by 7% at 59,346 registrations. Granted, August is the slowest month of the year, but it is still an encouraging sign. The year-to-date figure is down 6% at 1,220,618 units.

The Ford Fiesta keeps the pole position in August and improves its market share to 5.4% with 3,212 sales. The Vauxhall Corsa is up one spot to #2 at 2,901 units and 4.9%, followed by the Ford Focus with 2,858 sales and 4.8% and the VW Golf at 1,995 units and 3.4%. Year-to-date, the Focus is #2.

In 5th place the BMW 3 Series is up 2 spots on July with 1,739 sales and 2.9% share, it is the first time a BMW lands in the UK Top 5 since October 2010. Very solid month for the VW Passat, up to #7 at 1,526 units and 2.6%, and the Audi A3, in the Top 10 for the first time in one full year at #10 with 1,125 sales and 1.9%.
