World: 1960-2008 Historical Info now available

March 28th, 2011 No comments

VW Beetle

1980 Toyota Corolla

Historical Info on the best selling cars around the globe since 1960 has now been posted.

Pretty straight forward really, with the VW Beetle in the lead all through the sixties and into the mid-seventies, then losing its top spot when production dropped due to the arrival of the VW Golf. The Toyota Corolla then took the relay. It never looked back and still is the world’s best selling car today.

Click on ‘Read more’ below to check out these 7 new posts.

Note world models ranking are very rare to come across so if you have any official information relating to this from anytime before 2009 please make sure to get in touch on here by writing a comment. Thanks!

Croatia January-February 2011: Skoda Octavia new leader

March 25th, 2011 No comments

The Croatian car market is on its way to recovery over the first 2 months of 2011, up 20% at 6,652 registrations. After 6 years of domination of the Opel Astra (albeit challenged by the VW Polo last year), 2011 looks like it will be the stage for a massive change atop the models ranking: the Skoda Octavia takes the lead with no less than 9% of the market!

That’s 3 times its 2010 market share (it was 6th then), and exactly double the sales of the Opel Astra, down to #2 at 4.5% share. The Renault Megane takes the 3rd spot at 276 sales and 4.1%. There are two newcomers in the Top 10: the Dacia Sandero in 8th place at 2.6% and the Renault Fluence in 10th at 2.4%.

Brazil mid-March 2011: Fiat Uno confirms pole position!

March 18th, 2011 No comments

* Thanks to Titus for the tip – see ‘Read more’ below for the Top 100 best selling models *

Growth in Brazil seems to slow down slightly this fortnight at ‘only’ +8% and 142,369 registrations. After making history last month by passing the VW Gol for the first time, the Fiat Uno confirms its new Brazilian king status midway through March with 12,139 sales (8.5%) vs. 10,939 (7.7%) for the Gol.

If this stays the same until the end of the month and the Uno tops the ranking for 2 months in a row, it will be only the second time in 15 years any model apart from the Gol does so…with the Fiat Palio in 2006.

* See the Top 150 best selling models by clicking on ‘Read more’ below the Nissan Sunny pic! *

Chinese vehicles sales were up ‘only’ 5% in February at 1.26 million units, penalised by the week-long Lunar New Year festivities. The VW Lavida takes the lead for the fourth time in 10 months with 16,483 sales, however due to weaker Feb figures is only #4 year-to-date at 40,340 sales.

The BYD F3 falls to #8 but stays #1 year-to-date at 42,108 units. Two models that have quietly crept up the ranking recently reach their best-ever position this month: the Chevrolet Cruze is #2 at 15,181 units and the VW Bora is #4 with 14,408 sales.

The best performance of the month goes to the VW Tiguan, breaking into the Top 10 for the first time ever in China at #9 with 11,680 sales. The Nissan Sunny has a stellar second month of sales with 9,321 units moved at #17, + 21 spots on January.
