Car sales in Hungary have been laminated by the economic crisis: down 60% on 2008 to 61,143 registrations… This context completely reshuffles the models ranking: for only the second time in 10 years after 2003, the best-selling car in the country is not a Suzuki: it’s the Ford Focus, which had discreetly climbed the ladder over the last few years. Its drop of ‘only’ 44% over 2007 enables it to take the lead of the models ranking with 3,304 sales and 5.4% share.
The Suzuki SX4 is now the brand’s best-seller and stays #2 with sales down 65% to 2,997 units and 4.9%. It is followed by the Opel Astra, up 2 spots but down 54% to 2,561 sales and 4.2%. Leader for the last 4 years, the Suzuki Swift is down 72% to #4 and 2,442 units, just above the Suzuki Splash at 2,200 sales (-56%).
