Spain 2004: First win for the Renault Megane in record market

The Spanish new car market is up a very healthy 9.6% in 200 to a new record 1.486.303 units, or 1.518 million according to ANIACAM. Renault (+10%) celebrates an incredible 19 wins in the past 20 years at 12.8% share, distancing Citroen (+3.2%) and Peugeot (+6.2%) in an unchanged 100% French podium. Ford (+17.2%) leapfrogs past Seat (+1.7%) and Opel (+1.5%) for 4th place overall, just as Toyota (+29.6%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10 and Daweoo (+79.7%) and Honda (+51%) the strongest in the Top 20. Citroen (+0.8%) remains the most successful LCV brand above Renault (+16.5%) and Nissan (+16.4%).

Peugeot 307

Thanks to a very welcoming reception for the controversial new design, the Renault Megane (+24.4%) snaps its first Spanish pole position at 4.9% share, outselling its French archenemy the Peugeot 307 (+6.8%) up one spot to #2 while the Ford Focus (-4.2%) is down one spot to #2, making the podium 100% compact cars. Leader last year, the Seat Ibiza (-5.6%) is down to #4 in 2004 with the Peugeot 206 (-3.1%) rounding up the Top 5. The Citroen C3 (+11.9%) breaks its ranking record at #6 as does the Renault Scenic (+34.1%) at #7. The Renault Kangoo (+10.2%) remains the best-selling LCV ahead of the Citroen Berlingo (+5.3%) and Peugeot Partner (+0.1%).

Kia Picanto

The month of December 2004 was very eventful in Spain with no less than 4 models breaking into the Top 20 for the very first time. The Kia Picanto delivered an amazing 7th place with 3,952 sales and 3% share, the highest position ever reached by a Korean model so far in any major European market. The new Citroen C4 was #12 (2.2%), the Peugeot 407 #13 (2.1%) and the Seat Altea was #18 with 2,160 sales…
