208.430 new light vehicles found a buyer in Hungary in 2003. Suzuki remains dominant with 19.1% share, distancing Opel (13%), Renault (9.5%) and Skoda (7.3%) with Volkswagen (7.1%) rounding out the Top 5. Peugeot holds 7% of the Hungarian market in 6th place ahead of Daewoo, Ford, Toyota and Citroen.

Suzukis traditionally dominate the Hungarian car market so this is a very rare occurrence: the Skoda Fabia is the best-selling model in the country in 2003 thanks to sales surging 35% on 2003 to over 12.000 units. It is however only 81 units above the Suzuki Ignis, already #2 for its first full year in market. The Opel Astra, up 40%, stays #3 and is followed by last year’s leader the Suzuki Wagon R+, down 3 spots to #4 in spite of stable sales. The Opel Corsa is up 74% and one rank to #5, ahead of the Peugeot 206 and VW Polo.
