Brazil 2002: VW Gol at 15%, Chevy Corsa #2
In 2002, nearly 1.4 million new cars changed hands in Brazil, 1,391,202 exactly. The VW Gol is the best selling car in the country for the 15th year at 208,300 sales for a 15% market share. The Chevrolet Corsa, based on a 10-year old model, takes the 2nd place with 9.5% share at 131,749 sales and manages to pass the Gol’s archenemy, the Fiat Palio, down to #3 with 130,814 sales and 9.4%.
The Chevrolet Celta is stable in 4th position at 105,440 sales (7.6%), followed by the Fiat Uno (7%) down two spots. All other models are under 5% share, including the Renault Clio (#7 at 2.9%) and the Peugeot 206 (#8 at 2.8%), up respectively 42% and 54% over last year.
