Australian new car sales are freakishly stable this year at 787,100 registrations, up 0.03% on 1999! The Holden Commodore clocks up a 5th consecutive year in the top spot in spite of sales down 2% year-on-year to a still massive 83,610 units and 10.6% share. The Ford Falcon is sliding down dangerously at -14% to 60,460 sales and 7.7%, almost four percentage points below the Commodore. Never had the Holden dominated the Ford that frankly before.
The Toyota Camry/Vienta is down 22% but stays #3 and is now followed by the Toyota Corolla in great shape at +8% and passing the Hyundai Excel/Accent down another 9%. Notice the Mitsubishi Lancer up 35% to #9 while we welcome a newcomer in the Top 10: the Holden Astra, up a huge 128% to #10 with 18,439 sales and 2.3% share. The Ford Ute is up 31% to to a record #12 (vs. -24% and #35 for the Holden Ute), the Honda CR-V is up 32% to #13, the Toyota Echo up to #14 and the Toyota Avalon lands directly at #21. Notice also the VW Golf breaking into the Top 50 at #47.
